Introduction

The electronics of the LeapFrog Drum are fairly complex but simple to adapt.  The function of the toy that will be adapted is the "beating" of the drum. The selection of how the drum will react to the "beating" will not be adapted.

When the head of the drum is struck, 1.5 volts is sent to an electronic circuit to register the drum beat.  The charge is propagated by  a circuit built into the head of the drum.

We will be adding a 1.5 volt AA battery to the toy to produce the current for the drum beat.  Because of the electronics involved we will need to be sure to connect the positive (+) side of the battery to the part of the circuit board that receives a positive 1.5 volt signal from the "beat" circuit and likewise for the negative (-) side.

After the toy is adapted it will continue to work as it did before - except now it will be accessible to more children.

Don't worry, it sounds harder than it is!
